Inclusiveness and Intercultural Services will have two new assistant directors beginning next week to fill the post left vacant by Greg Trevino, who died in May from injuries suffered in an automobile accident, a university official said.

Darron Turner, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs, said Timeka Gordon will begin Tuesday, and April Brown will begin Wednesday.

"We got an opportunity for a second position, so we have two assistant directors," Turner said. "Some of the duties that he (Trevino) had were split into two areas."

Gordon will be more involved with community scholar programming, and Brown will focus more on retention and assessment, Turner said.

Trevino was a TCU alumnus and served as director of Inclusiveness and Intercultural Services in addition to his involvement with various student organizations on campus.

"The students loved him," Turner said. "He was the ideal person you want working with students."

Brown, who has worked at TCU since April 2006, echoed Turner's words on Trevino's positive impact on students.

"He was very much a student advocate," Brown said. "I can say I never saw him without a smile. That was always kind of neat."

Although Brown said losing Trevino this summer was difficult, she said she is looking forward to working for Inclusiveness and Intercultural Services.

"I always felt what they're trying to do in their mission and on campus is very important," Brown said.

Brown currently works in the nursing department where she serves as coordinator for the ACE program, an academic excellence program that offers tutoring to nursing students..

Brown's involvement with the ACE program should serve her well when she joins Inclusiveness and Intercultural Services. Brown said she plans to use the experience and insight she gained from it to develop new programs aimed at meeting student's needs.

"There's so much on campus that you can get overwhelmed with the events, but I think that's exciting," Brown said. "I'd rather have more than what you could take advantage of. I'm excited about any of the programs that could be developed."
